The Simone Bench was designed around the phrase “Close the door and set the day down,” from Miss Simone by Sara Bareilles. Built with eastern ash, the frame is sturdy and ready to handle all the burdens of a long day. The green cushion brings those natural elements inside, bridging the outside serenity of the home with the inside. The slatted shelf provides a surface to store your outdoor goods as you transition into a domestic setting, while the space adjacent to the cushion affords the user a space to set down their bag, jacket, and other small essentials. These spaces essentially create a limbo for you to retire the items of your work life before returning to a domestic setting. Combined with the cushion, these “walled” spaces form a sort of tension, or a balance; separating the 9-5 outdoors, yet inviting in the green of tranquil evenings and lazy mornings and allow the respective user to close the door and set the day down.
